Navihanke - Slovenian tunes medley

This is a nice medley of some popular Slovenian tunes, performed by ensemble Navihanke. All the members of this band are young ladies, still students.

Enjoy! :)

  1. I believe I heard a traditional Mexican tune in that medley, didn't I? They are very talented girls, although not professional.

At the urging of a Slovenian reader from Cleveland, I've posted another Slovenian artist on my Schlager music blog. What amazes me about current Slovenian schlager/pop is the incredible materialism just below the surface. In the videos, one keeps seeing Ferraris and other fast cars, Jack Daniels, swimming pools etc. It's kind of reminiscent of American pop culture during the 50s and 60s when we were basking in the 1st major prosperity after the great depression.

Here is the Slovenian artist I just posted:

  2. You're right, these girls - Navihanke - are not professionals, they are primarily college students and do music for fun. In this video they perform a medley of songs by different authors, not their own. The show in which they were guests, called "Polka in majolka" is also hosted by a college student.

Also, looking at the videos and seeing prestigious luxury items all over the place seems quite normal to me, knowing that Slovenia has only been independent - and practicing capitalism - for 20 years. Finding similarity with American pop culture after the great depression seems amusing - but makes sense.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your comments! :)
